Coso Rock Art Trip
October 16 and 17, 2015 - Members Overnight Trip
Lompoc Museum is taking its members on an overnight trip in October to see petroglyphs at the Coso Rock Art National Historic Landmark (NHL). The NHL is located in the northwestern portion of the Mojave Desert on property owned by the Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake (NAWS). More than 20,000 images grace the canyon walls and surfaces of boulder outcroppings. The incised rock carvings include depictions of bighorn sheep, lizards, snakes, tortoises, coyotes, centipedes, anthropomorphic figures, and geometric designs. We are very excited to offer our members this amazing opportunity to view some of the most densely occurring and best preserved rock art in North America.
Shop Lompoc, Shop Small
Saturday November 28, 2015 - 10:00am to 4:00pm
The Museum is participating in this city-wide event. In addition to having their maps stamped so they can be entered into the drawing for a great gift basket, the participants are also invited to join our Scavenger Hunt.
Those participating in the Scavenger Hunt will be given five questions on the upstairs exhibits and five questions on the down stairs exhibits. Anyone who fills in the ten questions gets a 20% discount on anything bought in the museum's gift shop on Saturday.
We hope you will come join in the fun and the Lompoc revitalization effort.
